WOMEN'S HEALTH

GYNECOLOGY

Annual Exams

A well-woman visit is an important way for women of all ages to stay healthy, detect health issues early, and prevent future ones from developing.

The annual well-woman exam is a routine preventative care and counseling visit. This yearly visit provides an excellent opportunity to talk with your gynecologist about strategies to maintain a healthy lifestyle and minimize health risks.

Menopause

Menopause is a natural decline in reproductive hormones when a woman reaches her 40s or 50s.
Common symptoms include hot flashes and vaginal dryness. There may also be sleep disturbances. The combination of these symptoms can cause anxiety or depression.

Shay Wellness offers several options to treat menopausal symptoms. Please call to schedule a consultation appointment.

Hormone Support

The menopausal stage in a woman’s life puts her body in flux in various ways. Hormones that have been regulating her overall quality of life are now out of balance.

Hormone replacement therapy remains the most effective solution for alleviating menopausal symptoms.

GYNECOLOGY

BHRT - Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Pellets

Pellets are compounded estradiol or testosterone that are made from organic plant materials, which have the exact molecular structure of those hormones found in the body. They are pressed into a solid compound that is about the size of a cooked grain of rice. Using a painless office procedure, they are inserted under the skin in the hip area. The pellets release small amounts of hormone directly into the bloodstream similar to that which the ovaries and testes produced during our younger adult years.

Topicals

Delivery of the bioidentical hormones  through the skin as a cream or gel has become a mainstay of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for women and men. A plethora of FDA-approved pharmaceuticals, and  compounded products are available. The popularity of these products lies not only in their ease of use, but in proven clinical efficacy [1-5] in treating hormonal deficiencies mostly brought on by aging of the female (menopause) and male (andropause) reproductive systems.

Troches

A troche is a small lozenge designed to dissolve between a person’s cheek and gum over a period of time; typically 30 minutes. As the troche dissolves in the patient’s mouth, the medication is absorbed through the oral mucosa and gradually  absorbs into the bloodstream. Troches are commonly used to administer bioidentical hormones in a patient, and can be flavored to mask bitterness, if needed.

Injectables

Estradiol and Testosterone can be administered subcutaneously or intramuscular. Discuss with your Provider the preferred route, dosage, and frequency of administration.

CONTRACEPTIVE MANAGEMENT

Oral Contraceptive Pill

Birth control pills are a type of contraception that is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when taken consistently every day. The pill contains hormones that regulate menstruation, lower the risk of ovarian and uterine cancers, improve acne and treat endometriosis. Does not protect against STI'S.

Nexplanon

The birth control implant (Nexplanon) is a tiny, thin rod about the size of a matchstick. The implant releases hormones into your body that prevent you from getting pregnant. Your Provider inserts the implant into your arm and that’s it — you’re protected from pregnancy for up to 5 years. It’s get-it-and-forget-it birth control. Does not protect against STI'S.

Progestin-Only Pills

The minipill norethindrone is an oral contraceptive that contains the hormone progestin. Unlike combination birth control pills, the minipill — also known as the progestin-only pill — doesn't contain estrogen. The progestin dose in a minipill is lower than the progestin dose in a combination birth control pill. Does not protect against STI'S.

Contraceptive Patch

The transdermal contraceptive patch is a safe and convenient birth control method that works really well if you always use it correctly. You wear the patch on certain parts of your body, and it releases hormones through your skin that prevent pregnancy.
There are two brands of birth control patches available in the U.S.: the Xulane patch and the Twirla patch. Does not protect against STI'S.

Intrauterine Device

An IUD is a tiny device that's put into your uterus to prevent pregnancy. It’s long-term, reversible, and one of the most effective birth control methods out there. Does not protect against STI'S.

Contraceptive Ring

The birth control ring is a safe and convenient birth control method that works really well if you always use it correctly. You wear a small, flexible ring inside your vagina, and it prevents pregnancy 24/7 by releasing hormones into your body.  There are 2 kinds of birth control rings: NuvaRing and Annovera. Does not protect against STI'S.
